Beautiful Diamond Ring Settings For you

Different jewelers specialize in different diamond ring settings. It definitely requires a sharp eye and attention to detail as well as patience to be a setter. Here are the different types of settings and their benefits.

The Prong Set

The Prong set is a commonly used style for diamond ring settings where gold tips are placed around a stone, and bent toward it to hold it in place. Prongs should be in a size in compatibility to the size of the stone or the diamond. The larger the stone, the taller and thicker the prongs should be in width. Smaller tinier stones that are used to accent a piece can also be set in prongs. The famous Tiffany Set, which is a diamond set with six prongs around is a beautiful example of jewelry using prong setting.

The more prongs you place around a stone the safer it is, however, prong set rings should be checked every now and then to make sure that they are not worn out. A lot of people lost their big carat diamond because they neglected to fix worn out prongs or prongs that had been pulled away from the stone. That’s why it’s very important to have your diamond rings scheduled for inspection every three months, depending on how often you wear a particular ring.

The Chanel Set

This is often found in bands, eternity bands, bracelets and engagement rings. Diamond ring settings are very different from each other visibly. For the Chanel set, a channel is carved into the metal surface, creating two walls each side of the row of diamonds.

The Bezel Set

In the Bezel set, the stone is held by a wall raised around the diamond and the top of the wall is hammered to slightly cover the stone and hold it in place. You can also find rings in half-bezel setting which is the same technique, except the wall doesn’t go around but rather created half circles each side of stone. This way you could see more of the diamond.

The Tension Set

The Tension set is the least safe among all diamond ring settings. However it is the type that showcases the diamond the most. Two walls on the metal surface with a space smaller than the stone, holds the stone in place with considerable pressure. The stone in a tension set has no other support, no under bezel or surface. The Tension set can be mostly seen on men’s rings.
